Lucy Ziegler LPC, MBSR

Lucy Ziegler is a diligent and caring teacher who guides her classes through the concepts and techniques to develop a mindfulness practice. She covered the landscape and provided the encouragement and support in a sensitive and compassionate manner to draw everyone into beneficial practices for the reduction of stress and cultivation of a positive attitude in life.

I recommend her guidance for anyone interested in developing a mindful practice and bringing stress reduction techniques into their daily lives.

I had the good fortune to take an evening adult class at the Boerne Public Library from Lucy Ziegler on the topic of Mindfulness. Lucy is a Licensed Counselor and offered a class on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction using the model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The stress reduction program, created by Kabat-Zinn, is offered by medical centers, hospitals, health maintenance organizations and by trained and qualified practitioners like Lucy Ziegler.

In our 2-class, for eight consecutive Wednesday nights, we were gently led by Lucy to begin practicing mindfulness in a 'formal' way. We also learned how to practice mindfulness in our daily lives. Every day during the week we were to practice the techniques Lucy had taught us during the Wednesday night sessions.

We did simple exercises relating to our breathing and our awareness of our bodies in the space that it occupies. We practiced simply observing our thoughts and our interior sensations rather than being swept away by them. We were introduced to the wisdom that our own bodies have to cope with stress, pain or illness. We learned the necessary remedy to stress is found in these daily practices.

In total, we practiced the practice of mindfulness 28 hours in class with Lucy and approximately 40 hours at home as homework. It becomes a new way of thinking. During the brief discussions during each session, participants shared similar stories of being pleasantly surprised at how good we all felt about our own ability to better cope with stress.
